Why won’t my toilet drain?

A toilet can block when something catches in the bend or the waste cannot pass through freely. You may see the water rise in the bowl, drain very slowly, or remain there after flushing. If the water is already high, don’t flush again: another flush can make it overflow.

What should I do while I wait?

Stop using the toilet and keep the area clear. If the bowl is close to overflowing, avoid adding water or trying another flush. A photo or short video helps us see the water level and what’s happening before we travel.

Don’t mix drain chemicals or pour boiling water into the bowl. That can create a hazard or damage the toilet, and it won’t tell us what is causing the blockage. If you’ve already used a product, tell us what it was when you message.

How do you clear a blocked toilet?

First, send us a photo or short video on WhatsApp. We’ll assess what we can from that and, where possible, identify what equipment or parts may be needed. Then we pick up anything required from the supplier before travelling, so the visit is planned around the problem rather than guesswork.

For a toilet blockage, we bring equipment suited to the job, including a plunger, drain rods, a suction pump and a pressure pump. The right approach depends on what we can see and how the blockage responds. We finish with a hot-water flush and check the flow, rather than leaving as soon as the water starts moving.

Should I use a plunger or call you?

A plunger can help with a straightforward blockage, but stop if the water rises, the blockage does not shift, or you’re unsure what is safe to do. Repeated forceful plunging can splash contaminated water and make a mess around the toilet.
