A small toilet leak can spread across a bathroom floor, seep into a ceiling below or keep the water meter moving between visits. If you can see water around the base, behind the cistern or near a connection, it is worth dealing with the source before the damp patch grows.

Where is the water coming from?

Water around a toilet does not automatically mean the pan is cracked. It may be escaping from a supply connection, the cistern, a flush component or the joint where the toilet meets the floor. The location and timing of the leak help narrow it down: does it appear after flushing, or continue when the toilet has not been used?

If water is actively spreading, turn off the toilet’s local isolation valve if you can reach it safely. Avoid forcing a stiff valve. Move items away from the wet area and dry the floor where possible, then take a photo or short video. Send it through WhatsApp with a note about when the leak appears.

Could a toilet leak be increasing my water bill?

Yes. A leak that runs continuously can waste water even when it is difficult to see. A cistern that keeps refilling, a faint trickle into the pan or a damp patch that returns after drying all warrant attention. If the leak is intermittent, note when you first see it and whether it follows a flush.

How do we repair a leaking toilet?

We start with the symptoms and any photos or video you can provide. That helps us prepare for the visit and identify likely parts before travelling. Once we have checked the toilet, we explain what needs doing and agree the price up front.

A repair could involve a connection, a cistern component or the seal at the base. The exact work depends on what we find. If the toilet needs replacing instead of repairing, we can discuss the options and arrange a fixed price for a future installation after reviewing photos or video of the existing setup.

What if the leak is coming from the cistern or overflow?

A cistern that keeps filling may send water into the bowl or out through an overflow route. That can look different from a leak at the base, and it calls for a different check. Stop the leak spreading

Send us a photo or short video of the affected area, if you can take one safely. Include whether the leak happens after flushing or continues between uses. We usually reply on WhatsApp in about 10 minutes, then we can agree what happens next and provide an ETA when travelling.

Why is there water around the toilet base?

Water at the base may come from a seal, connection or another part of the toilet. A check is needed to identify the source before choosing a repair.

Should I stop using a leaking toilet?

If water is actively escaping, stop using it and turn off the local valve if it is safe and easy to do. Do not force a valve that will not turn.

Can you repair a toilet that leaks only after flushing?
